Hello, Sat Nam, Namaste
Farid Azzout --- Yogi Gotam Singh
When dance becomes yoga and yoga becomes dance

Dancer, choreographer and teacher, Farid Azzout (Gotam Singh) is one of the founding figures of hip-hop dance in France. Since his beginnings in 1984, he has constantly explored movement as a living language, a space for creation, transmission and transformation.
After contributing to the emergence of hip-hop culture and creating several choreographic works, his career gradually expanded to include other physical practices. His encounter with yoga marked a pivotal moment in this evolution. It enriched his artistic exploration and gave rise to a unique style where the energy of hip-hop, the rigor of contemporary dance, and the depth of somatic practices engage in a dialogue.
Today, his work focuses less on virtuosity than on the quality of presence. He explores what connects breath, body, memory and silence, in an approach where each gesture becomes meaningful.
His new project, Here and Now (working title), is the culmination of this research. Conceived as a solo, it explores the trace left by time on the body, the transformations of being, and the possibility of fully inhabiting the present moment.
The creative process unfolds in four stages: a physical re-evaluation, a laboratory for choreographic research and writing, the creation of the solo, and then its encounter with the public.
Through this work, Farid Azzout pursues a profoundly human artistic approach, where dance becomes a space for awareness, memory, and encounter. His work weaves a link between heritages, generations, and practices, affirming movement as a sensory experience capable of connecting the personal to the universal.
